On September 24 2026, IIBSA held an Online-Event “Academic International Cooperation | Israel, Middle East, North Africa and Europe. Challenges and Opportunities in Difficult Times” with Academics from Europe and MENA-Region. In recent years, the situation for academics and for academic cooperation with Israel has changed considerably.
Against this backdrop, we explored how these developments have affected researchers and institutions, and what challenges and opportunities they present for international academic collaboration between Israel, the Middle East, North Africa and Europe. A further focus of the discussion was the fight against Israel-hatred and antisemitism in academia, and the role that universities and research institutions can play in addressing it.
