Jews in Europe and in the United States are experiencing levels of antisemitism not seen in decades. The hostility directed against them comes from several quarters, including white supremacists, Christian Identity Movement nationalists, anti-Zionist activists, members of European parliaments or the U.S. Congress, radicalized elements within Muslim and African-American communities, street thugs, and others.While broadly condemned, Jew-hatred is more openly expressed than it has been in the experience of most American Jews. The situation has already resulted in lethal attacks against synagogues and assaults against Jews on the streets of New York and other cities. It is rightly perceived as threatening and poses new challenges to people living in America’s Jewish communities. How does this situation compare to that in Great Britain, France, Germany, Hungary, and elsewhere? Is it possible to observe ideological links between what is occurring in the United States and in European countries? This conference will explore these and related questions.
