Research Network on Antisemitism and Racism: International Conference in Porto

Last week, we held a highly tense yet intellectually stimulating conference for our international Research Network, “Ethnic Relations, Racism, and Antisemitism,” in Porto. The network’s events featured 14 sessions with around 50 presentations, exploring various forms and current developments of antisemitism and racism. This network is part of the European Sociological Association (ESA) and is coordinated by IIBSA Chair Kim Robin Stoller. The Research Network’s events were held during the ESA’s biennial conference, which was attended by around 5,000 people.

A significant focus of the Research Network’s discussions was on the developments following the Hamas Massacre of October 7th and its impact. The network’s discussions were overshadowed by the spread of antisemitism across many segments of society on an almost global level, including within the European Sociological Association. Despite these challenges, it was heartening to exchange ideas and connect with all the dedicated individuals who presented, attended, and debated during our sessions. Thank you all for your contributions.
